REV. CARL BEAN - THE MINISTER

As an openly Gay man, he was ordained as a Minister on August 17, 1982. He then went on to become Founder and Pastor of Unity Fellowship Church, Los Angeles (aka Mother Church), in 1985.

His wisdom introduced us to Liberation Theology, which frees the oppressed, and therefore:

Is not a male-dominated hierarchy

  • Is not oppressive to women
  • Is not just European in scope
  • Must relate to People of Color and their various cultures around the world
  • Is not oppressive to Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual, Hermaphrodite (Intersexual), or Heterosexual people (and any other label that is placed on human sexuality)

He taught us that God is greater than any religion, denomination or school of thought.

His insight and vision gave us our Church motto:
"God Is Love And Love Is For Everyone"
As a social activist, he has shown us we must fight for the rights of all people. Some of the outreach ministries established by the Unity Fellowship Church, Los Angeles are:

  • Youth and Young Adult Outreach
  • Street L.I.F.E. Outreach
  • All Fellowship Recovery (AA, CA, NA) Meetings
  • Sexual Compulsives Meetings
  • Prison Ministry and Prison Case Management Program
  • Womynâs Social Justice Ministries
  • HIV/AIDS Support Group
  • Literacy/Reading Project

REV. CARL BEAN - THE FOUNDER AND
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF MINORITY AIDS PROJECT

The Minority AIDS Project (MAP) is the first community based HIV/AIDS organization established and managed by People of Color in the United States. It was founded in 1985 in Los Angeles, California.

MAPâs mission is to reduce suffering and deaths due to HIV/AIDS infection in the African-American and Latino communities by making HIV/AIDS-related health services and education available and accessible.

BISHOP CARL BEAN - THE LEADER
UNITY FELLOWSHIP CHURCH MOVEMENT

In his wisdom he established the Unity Fellowship Church Movement (UFCM) in 1990. The Movement is a non-partisan, non-profit organization headquartered at 5148 W. Jefferson Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. Membership and affiliation are open to all people, groups and congregations. Presently, the UFCM network totals over 4,000 individuals with twelve national departments, urban outreach ministries, a national mass choir, periodicals and constituency-based programs nationwide.

BISHOP CARL BEAN - COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS

His caring at work in the community has earned him nearly one hundred awards, commendations, and honors from some of the most prestigious organizations in the country. His accomplishments have been acknowledged by the NAACP with their Image Award, as well as by the Hip-Hop community through 92.3 The Beat. (Complete list of awards below.)

BISHOP CARL BEAN - L.I.F.E. RECORDS
FOUNDER, C.E.O., EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND WRITER

L.I.F.E. Records is a non-profit organization committed to raising monies for the prevention of the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus that is devastating minority communities. In 1998, Bishop Carl Bean and the Unity Fellowship Church National Mass Choir produced a CD entitled "Right Now", featuring traditional gospel style with a non-traditional twist. (Bishop Carl Bean wrote all of the songs on the CD.) Proceeds from the sale of "Right Now" were donated to help minorities and poor people living with HIV/AIDS.

ARCHBISHOP CARL BEAN - THE VISIONARY

Proverbs 29:18
"Where there is no vision, the people perish·"

And the wisdom continues·

"You can go to school for knowledge, but there is no school for WISDOM.
WISDOM COMES FROM WITHIN!"
