REV.
CARL BEAN - THE MINISTER
As an
openly Gay man, he was ordained as a Minister on August 17, 1982.
He then went on to become Founder and Pastor of Unity Fellowship
Church, Los Angeles (aka Mother Church), in 1985.
His
wisdom introduced us to Liberation Theology, which frees the
oppressed, and therefore:
Is not a male-dominated hierarchy
- Is not oppressive
to women
- Is not just European
in scope
- Must relate to
People of Color and their various cultures around the world
- Is not oppressive
to Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bisexual, Hermaphrodite (Intersexual),
or Heterosexual people (and any other label that is placed
on human sexuality)
He taught
us that God is greater than any religion, denomination or school
of thought.
His
insight and vision gave us our Church motto:
"God Is Love And Love Is For Everyone"
As a social activist, he has shown us we must fight for the rights of all people.
